Every time the tide lowers, the shellfish gatherers of a town in the south of Galicia work hard to upkeep the threshold that separates the sea and the sand. We see feelings and a collective consciousness emerge and develop from their bodies, actions, and words –a symbiosis of elements.

The sea and the earth are two spaces that need to be cultivated. For millennia, those who worked these lands –the lands of the earth and the lands of the sea–  as farmers and sailors gave their lives to survival. Their dedication allowed them to live off their work, but it is becoming precarious in terms of economy and health. Today, survival has become a symbiotic relationship that gives them the possibility to reimagine themselves within the context of a wounded planet shaken by environmental issues.

The heritage of Freguesía do Extremo (Arcos de Valdevez, Portugal) plays a significant role in the community’s everyday life. Together with the local population, the forts of Bragandelo and Pereira, located between the mountain ranges Serra da Boalhosa and Serra da Peneda, are the main characters of this film that offers a portrait of this area that the locals call “nevoeiro” (thick fog), as it’s frequently surrounded by fog.
