MICE’S AWARDS FOR THE OFFICIAL SELECTIONS: INTERNATIONAL & GALICIAN 

The members of the jury for the Official Selections will be in charge of giving MICE’S Best Film Award (1000 euros, a trophy, and a diploma), and MICE’s Best Galician Film Award (800 euros, a trophy, and a diploma).

This year, the international jury is composed by Bibiana Martínez Álvarez, Severiano Casalderrey and Rita Capucho. They will be in charge of giving:

  • AGANTRO Award for Anthropology Excellence, sponsored by the Galician Association of Anthropology, worth 500 euros and a trophy.
  • Best Galician Ethnographic Film, sponsored by the Galician Association of Anthropology, worth 500 euros and a trophy.

BIBIANA MARTÍNEZ ÁLVAREZ

She is a doctor and holds a degree in Social Anthropology from the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) and a master’s degree in Anthropology and Ethnography with training in visual anthropology (UB).

Furthermore, she studied social cinema at the cinema school El Observatorio de Barcelona, and she has specific training in ethnographic cinema with Roger Canals (UB). She is a member of the research groups GER (Grup d’Estudis sobre Reciprocitat da UB) and GET (Grupo de Estudos Territoriais da Universidade da Coruña). Her line of research focuses on economic anthropology —from a political and economic perspective— in the rural context of Galicia, specifically on the problems faced by family farms. This research has allowed her to publish several papers, as well as to attend several academic stays and national and international conferences.

Together with Paula Ballesteros-Arias, Joan Roura, and Carlos Diz, she coordinated the ethnographic film section at the 14th International SIEF Congress held in Santiago de Compostela.

severiano casalderrey

Teacher, pianist, essayist, critic and film programmer. In the literary field, he is the author of four publications on film and short film. He was the winner in the international film essay category at the VI María Luz Morales Awards (2022), as well as winning two runners-up prizes (2021 and 2024 editions). He is a regular contributor to the magazine Tempos Novos, writing articles on film festivals and interviews with both film professionals and classical music personalities.

His experience as a film programmer spans more than fifteen years. He was director of the animation festival ANIRMAU (2010-13), as well as being part of the programming team of FICBUEU (2012-23), being its deputy director in recent years between 2019 and 2023. He is currently working on the animation festival IMAXINARIA (A Coruña) and other projects of the Vigo-based production company Abella Producións, including GFFF (Vigo) and Cinema Miúdo (Ames).

He has participated as a jury member in nearly twenty international festivals (Cinanima, TIDCA-Taipei, IbizaCineFest, Curtas Vila do Conde, PortoFemme…). He is also a member of the Spanish Film Academy (responsible for the Goya Awards) and the Galician Audiovisual Academy (organiser of the Maestro Mateo Awards).

rita capucho

Rita Capucho is a co-founder and co-director of Porto Femme—International Film Festival. She is also a programmer for Femme Sessions and Shortcutz Aveiro. In addition, she works as a producer, curator, and trainer in several cultural organizations. Rita is also a coordinator and trainer in the project Cinamiza-te, which is dedicated to training young audiences in the field of cinema. Moreover, she serves as a jury member in many international film festivals.

She’s the founder and board member of MUTIM—Association of Women Workers in the Motion Picture Industry.

PhD student in Communication and Activism at the Lusophone University, Rita holds both a BA and an MA in Artistic Studies from the School of Arts at the University of Coimbra. She is a member of CICANT—Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies, and also a member of CEIS20—Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies of the 20th Century at the University of Coimbra. She also participates in the research project SPECULUM – Filmar-se e Ver-se ao Espelho: O uso da escrita de si por documentaristas de língua portuguesa (The use of self-writing by Portuguese-speaking documentary filmmakers).

She is the president of the board of directors of the Aveiro Poetry Group. Likewise, she is currently a member of the coordinating group of the magazine Folhas letras & outros ofícios. She is also one of the organizers of Poetry Slam Aveiro, and one of the coordinators of Plataforma Portugal Slam.

She has several works published in magazines and other publications, most recently in the book Reconstituição Portuguesa.

Rita was a founding member of AVANCA | CINEMA – International Conference Cinema – Art, Technology, Communication, as well as a member of the International Journal of Cinema, where she worked as editorial producer.

Furthermore, she has been a programmer for the Cinema Dolce Vita in Ovar, for the Quintas de Cinema at Cine-Teatro de Estarreja,and for Os Filmes das Nossas Terças at Teatro Aveirense.
