Limited Capacity

As a parallel activity, the 16th Mostra Internacional de Cinema Etnográfico (MICE) hosts the ONS SOA exhibition, curated by the archaeologist and ethnographer Paula Ballesteros-Arias and based on her fieldwork on the Ons Island. The exhibition showcases a selection of pieces that come from her research at the Instituto de Ciencias do Patrimonio (Incipit) of the CSIC between 2009 and 2013, along with her own materials that she collected between the late 80s and 2016. An approach to everyday life through the traces of the past that takes us back to Prehistory and the testimonies of people living on the island at the time of her research. The exhibition is an autoethnographic account which summarizes the anthropologist’s concerns and impressions of the cultural heritage of Ons Island. A practical –and sensory– sample of visual anthropology, the exhibition will be open from 23rd March to  30th May, 2021 at the Museo do Pobo Galego.

The narrative discourse takes the form of a round trip through images and soundscapes. The ONS SOA exhibition consists of 19 photographs and other audiovisual documents. The images represent life stories, stories of a community that shaped the island itself and coexisted with these stones with total respect, endowing a huge symbolism to the spaces, with numerous myths and legends associated with them.
