GALICIAN CINEMA AND TRANSITION, A DAY WITH ROUND TABLES AND SCREENINGS AT THE MICE

March 21th, 2024. On Thursday, March 21st, MICE starts with the session Galician cinema and the Transition, in the framework of the section Trazas, organised by the festival and the Performing, Musical and Audiovisual Arts section of the Council for Galician Culture. There will be three round tables that will begin at 11 am in the South Wing of the Museum of Galician People. The first one will focus on the Amateur and militant cinema of the Transition, with Xosé Xoán Cabanas Cao, Antón Caeiro, and Xan Gómez Viñas, and moderated by Ana Domínguez. The second one, at 12.30 pm, entitled From amateur to professional, will have the participation of Manuel Abad, Manolo González, and Milagros Bará, and it will be moderated by Marcos Gallego. In the afternoon, at 4.30 pm, Eloy Enciso, José Manuel Sande, and Coral Piñeiro, with the moderation of Beli Martínez, will discuss about the Representation of the Transition in contemporary cinema. The discussing session will be combined with the screening of a selection of films, in collaboration with Cineclube de Compostela, which will drive a broader and more complex reading on the Transition and the Galician cinema. On Thursday, from 6 pm, NUMAX will screen the films A lei da terra, by Colectivo Grupo Zero, about the agrarian reform in Alentejo; and a selection of short films by Manoel da Costa. 

In addition, on this second day of the MICE, the screenings of the official section continue. Thus, in the International section we will watch the Spanish first releases of Flotacija, by Eluned Zoe Aiano and Alesandra Tatić, at 5 pm in the Auditorio of the Museum of Galician People; and the Galician first releases of Taxibol, by Flavio Armone, at 7.30 pm in the South Wing of the Museum; and Onde fica esta rua?, by João Pedro Rodrigues and João Rui Guerra da Mata at 10 pm in the Salón Teatro. In the same space, the films competing in the Galicia section A revolución (é) probable, by María Ruido, Paula Barreiro-López, and Lee Douglas; and Habitar, by Anxos Fazáns will also be screened. It will take place at 8 pm, in a session with specific subtitles for deaf and hard-of-hearing people.

Among the 19th MICE parallel activities, on this Thursday the film Os espazos en branco will be screened, an approach to Xela Arias figure and the cinematographic debut of her nephew, Bruno Arias. It will take place at 6 pm in Salón Teatro.
