Adriana Pérez Villanueva is a Spanish filmmaker and animator. After obtaining a degree in audiovisual communication from Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, she specialized in animation at Madrid’s Film School. She worked as an intern for Chantada’s local TV Televinte and for Sandiás’ festival of animation filmmaking Animacam. In 2021 she directed Con etiqueta, a documentary film made in collaboration with the association for mental illness A Creba that explores mental illness and how it affects diagnosed individuals and their families. Pérez Villanueva was an active member of Videocartas Galiza-Berlín (2014), a project focusing on current Galician migrants, with an accent on the experience of Galician people moving out to Berlin. Since 2012, she is part of the film production company Illa Bufarda, where she works as a creator and a teacher. She co-directed, hand in hand with Sabela Iglesias (also a member of Illa Bufarda) the feature films Fíos fora, historias de obreiras entre costuras e patrons (2015) and Negro púrpura, the piece that opened MICE’s 2021 edition.
Vicente Vázquez. With a background as a visual artist, Vicente Vázquez has since 2001 developed a career in different sectors, both as an individual creator and as a member of different collective initiatives. His creative explorations are related to the visual arts, filmmaking, contemporary dance, and performance. In 2013, he co-founded, along with Usue Arrieta, Marc Vives, and Ainara Elgoibar (a collective that would later be joined by Nader Koochaki) the artists’ cooperative Tractora Coop. Based in Bizkaia, Tractora Coop. is devoted to guide and support the projects of their partners and those by other collaborators whose works are in tune with the cooperative’s ideals. In November 2016, Anthology Film Archive organized a program of screenings of works by Vázquez and Usue Arrieta that had been co-produced by Tractora. In 2018 he contributed to put in place, as a member of Tractora, the publishing house -zko, whose aim is to bring to the public works that explore art and its connections with different disciplines. He also devoted himself to documenting the works by New Zealand artist Darcy Lange. The result of this work was part of the exhibition Landa Lan. A Documentation of Darcy Lange, which was on show at Tabakalera, Donosti’s international center for contemporary culture. His solo exhibition De lo cierto a lo pintado was on show at Galería Nordés in Santiago de Compostela.
Humberto Martins hold a PhD in social anthropology and in visual anthropology and works as a professor at Universidade de Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD). Martins is a member of the research center Centro em Rede de Investigação em Antropologia (CRIA), where he is part of the Núcleo de Antropologia Visual e da Arte (NAVA). He is also the director of their ethnographic journal Revista Etnográfica. As a scholar, he has participated in several research projects on visual anthropology, and has written articles and directed films that explore this disicipline. Since 2022, he collaborates as an organizer, film programmer and jury member at several film festivals devoted to ethnographic cinema.
Antonela Mannelli holds a degree in anthropology from Universidad Nacional de La Plata (Argentina) and a masters’ degree in management of cultural diversity, cultural heritage, and cultural development from Universidad de Sevilla. As a scholar, she participated in a number of projects focusing on cultural diversity, indigenous peoples, and education, and she has delivered specialized workshops at schools and community centers.
Beatriz Busto is a professor of social anthropology at the faculty of philosophy of Universidade de Santiago de Compostela. She holds a PhD in social anthropology and a degree in history and science of music (Universidad Autónoma de Madrid). She pursued studies in musical education at Universidade de Vigo and since 2088 works as a music teacher at different education centers, both State-managed and independent. As a scholar, she is part of the research group Grupo/Rede Galabra, where she develops her activity as a social anthropologist, contributing to analyze the impact of The Way on local communities. Her double background in music and anthropology led her to publish her writings in both areas. She has participated in several conferences, panels, and interviews related to these two disciplines.
Iñigo Sánchez-Fuarros is a scholar supported by the Ramón y Cajal initiative at CSIC’S Incipit (the institute for heritage), where he develops research projects devoted to expressive culture, tourism, and the processes of heritagization, with special attention to methodologies that establish connections between ethnography and audiovisual contents. Prior to that, he worked as a pre-doctoral researcher at Universidade Nova de Lisboa and at Queen’s University in Belfast. Sánchez-Fuarros, who holds a PhD in anthropology from Universidade de Barcelona, is currently coordinating the research project Sounds of Tourism (PTDC/ART-PER/32417/2017, Portugal) and co-directing the R+D project HabitPAT: Os coidados do patrimonio” (PID2020-118696RB-I00, Incipit, CSIC).
